You Will Never Regret Learning to Dance!
Dear Student :
In spite of your age - may it be 5 , 15, 20, 30, 40 or 70 - or perhaps more - YOU will always be happy to feel trim, be physically well, active and very much alive !
The mental and physical benefits derived from dancing are so numerous that it would be impossible to list them all . Here are just a few to help you realise the fantastic value of your dancing lessons.
Apart from the thrill and pride of accomplishment gained from the knowledge that you can do something well - and you can and will become a good dancer, just imagine and reflect on these benefits :
DANCING HELPS CONTROL WEIGHT !
Only and only through some sort of regular exercise can we avoid some and/or all the extra calories we take in daily from converting into body fat. It is not easy to curb our appetites and carefully choose foods we eat. In fact, it is quite a chore !
DANCE and keep fit in a pleasant atmosphere and with pleasant people.
DANCING IS BENEFICIAL TO OUR HEARTS !
Specialists in the medical field have agreed that long periods of inactivity have a tendency to cause a decline in heart efficiency. A heart accustomed to exercise when you are forced into more violent exercise such as running up stairs to answer an important telephone call, doing housework, cutting a lawn, dashing for a subway or a bus or entering into more active sports such as swimming, tennis, etc, will be in a better position to take the load. Your heart will pump blood throughout your body with much more efficiency when required to do so frequently by a mild form of exercise such as DANCING.
DANCING IS EXTREMELY GOOD FOR YOUR NERVES !
Do you know that our nerve cells govern our senses of sight, feel, hearing, smell and taste? That they govern our memory, emotions, reasoning and motor reflexes also? Doctors have long recognised the beneficial effects of exercise on the psyche and nerve cells. DANCING aids in relieving nervous stress and strain. It counteracts nervous fatigue.
If we are to make intelligent decisions in our every day life and be able to think clearly we must possess a relaxed nervous system. Dancing can help you achieve just this !
DID YOU EVER STOP TO THINK WHAT GOOD CIRCULATION WILL DO FOR YOU ?
So few of us ever do stop to reflect about the needs of our body until it is too late. Good circulation ( enhanced by dancing - because it is exercise ) not only nourishes our muscles giving us co-ordination, grace and poise in all our every day activities, but is rejuvinating to our skin.
Why do we use all sorts of creams and massages to stimulate the circulation and bring the flow of blood closer to the surface thus improving the appearance of our skin and giving it a youthful glow? As we grow older we become less active, and the effects of this inactivity tend to slow us up both physically and mentally.
We must find hobbies and interests which will help us to continue using our minds and our bodies. We cannot do the strenuous exercises we did in our younger days, but we can dance because the amount of energy we put into our individual dancing depends entirely on how much we want to put into it.
HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT THE FACT THAT PRIMATIVE MAN EXPRESSED HIMSELF THROUGH MOVEMENT AND DANCE LONG BEFORE THE DEVELOPMENT OF LANGUAGE ?
How many of us can remain perfectly quiet without moving when we try to express verbally one feeling or another? Rhythm is a very natural part of existence itself - the universe moves in rhythm, our hearts beat in rhythm, the tiny cells that we are made of move in rhythm and in characteristic patterns like minute dancers. The ability to dance is within every human being - but it, like a precious ore waiting to be mined, is yet to be developed. In other words, your teachers do not put dancing into your body, they draw it from within you.
Our spirits and hearts are always young and gay, and it is up to us to give them freedom and not keep them encased in a body that does not and will not respond to their cry for expression. The man or woman who does not dance is like a bird in a cage, like being bound up tightly in a straight jacket, like one who lacks the necessary vocabulary to express the beauty of the varied emotions lying within. We sincerely believe that every human being has a beautiful soul and is bursting with love and a profound appreciation for the wonders of life. Much of this “beauty and great depth” can be brought out through the study of the universal language - DANCING - and who knows what wonders we may find within ourselves as we develop our bodies to the point where the dividing line between spirit and flesh almost diminishes and merges. When you dance you cannot help but have fun, feel young and happy because you are moving, and in so doing so you are becoming an integral part of creation. This will reflect in your body and you will not only feel younger but look younger, gain physical and mental health, add years to your life and be a much nicer person to associate with.
Remember that when we are happy we are much more congenial and consequently much more popular with our friends and family.
So, think about dancing and yourself and each and every lesson you take will mean so much more to you. While you learn to excel in this beautiful art ( and how many people can truthfully say they excell in anything? ) THINK what you are gaining from each and every moment you spend on the dance floor.
